چکیده

Salicylic acid (SA) is an endogenous plant growth regulator of phenolic nature that plays a key role in the regulation of plant growth, development, interaction with other organisms and in the responses to environmental stresses such as drought. An experiment was therefore, conducted to evaluation the influence of exogenous SA application on some traits of common bean under water stress conditions in Iran during 2011. Results showed that drought decreased plant height, leaf area index (LAI) and protein yield but increased seed protein content. Nevertheless, seeds soaking in SA (especially 0.5 mM) diminished drought damages and increased plant height, LAI and protein yield in both water stress and optimum conditions. SA application also decreased seed protein content. Results indicate that exogenous application of this phytohormone can act as an effective tool in improving the growth and production of common bean under water stress conditions.

The effect of priming on physiological and biochemical traits of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) under cobalt chloride stress

Extended Abstract Introduction: The germination stage ensures the durability, establishment, and final yield of plants.  The final density of plants per unit area is resulted when the planted seeds germinate fully and with adequate rate. Plants mainly undergo abiotic stresses that are a considerable constraint for agricultural production worldwide. Seed priming is one of the simplest and cheap...

Effect of foliar application of seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum extract on morpho-physiological characteristics of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) under water stress

Seaweed extract can improve the physicochemical properties of the soil and has a favorable effect on the plant growth and development due to having high nutrient content, high water holding capacity, plant growth regulators and beneficial microorganisms. The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effect of Ascophyllum nodosum extract, a brown alga, on the morphophysiological characterist...

Morpho-Physiological Characterization Related to Drought Tolerance of Common Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.) Genotypes

Drought is one of the limiting factor in common bean, development of common bean varieties that adapted to drought situations is the main focus for improving food crops. In this study, 25 genotypes of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were grown under drought stress and non-stress conditions. The field work was conducted at Melkassa Agricultural Research Center during the off-season that lai...

In order to investigate the effect of different levels of water deficit and foliar application of humic acid on the physiological characteristics of lima bean, a field experiment was arranged as split-split plot based on randomized complete block design with three replications in the research station of Shahrekord University in 2014. The main plot included four levels of drought stress (50, 70,...
